The Malt Whisky Trail

Whisky, Uisghe Beatha, The Water of Life, has evolved over more than 500 years to give the range of rich single malts, complex pure malts and distinctive Scotch blends we know today.
Follow the world-famous Malt Whisky Trail through Speyside to seven working distilleries, including a fascinating cooperage and a historic distillery. From Benromach to Dallas Dhu, a perfect time capsule of whisky-making; from Glen Moray to Strathisla, home and heart of Chivas Regal; from the Glen Grant distillery to the Speyside Cooperage where real coopers work with incredible speed and skill; from Glenfiddich to The Glenlivet and the Cardhu distillery, Scotland's whisky trail signposts lead you through the picturesque lush countryside of Speyside, the world's favourite malt whisky region.

The Castle Trail and Local Heritage

Step back in time and explore the history of North East Scotland.  The local area has many fine examples of castles and country houses.  From the majestic Ballindalloch Castle, family home of the Macpherson-Grants since 1546, to Brodie Castle in nearby Forres.  Some which haven't fared so well are the ruined Duffus castle and the ruined cathedral in Elgin.  A little further to the east is the Scottish Castle Trail, a collection of 13 castles and country houses set along a well defined route through spectacular scenery.

Speyside is a haven for many species of flora and fauna and in some cases a last line of defence.  Roe and Red Deer are still to be found wandering through the local forests as well as Red Squirrels Pine Martins.  There is also a wide range of rare birds including Ospreys and other birds of prey.

On the coast The Moray Firth is home to an abundance of wildlife including otters, seals, harbour porpoises, basking sharks, minke whales, bottle nose and common dolphins.
